What's the Best Way to Clean a Bong?
The good news is that cleaning a ceramic bong is almost exactly the same as cleaning a glass bong.
We recommend using 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol and coarse salt, a simple combination that dissolves resin quickly without damaging the inside of your piece.
The only difference with a handcrafted ceramic bong is the exterior artwork. While the inside can be cleaned just like glass, the outside should be treated a little more gently.
What You'll Need
Before you get started, gather:
- 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol
- Coarse salt
- Warm water
- A soft cloth
- The cork included with your Berkshire Bong
- Windex (optional, for the exterior only)
How to Clean Your Bong Step by Step
Step 1: Remove the Down stem
Carefully slide the glass down stem out of the bong.
Place it in a container of rubbing alcohol while you clean the main body. This loosens resin and makes it much easier to rinse clean afterward.
Step 2: Plug the Down stem Opening
Insert the included cork firmly into the down stem opening.
This keeps the cleaning solution inside the bong while you're cleaning.
Step 3: Rinse with Warm Water
Give the inside a good rinse with warm water before adding any cleaner.
This flushes out loose ash and debris and prepares the bong for a deeper clean.
Step 4: Add Alcohol and Salt
Pour about 2–3 inches of 91% isopropyl alcohol into the bong.
Add a generous amount of coarse salt.
Let the mixture soak for 10–20 minutes if there's heavy buildup. The alcohol breaks down sticky resin while the salt gently scrubs the inside as you swirl it around.
Step 5: Swish the Cleaner
